Mission & Vision

  • What is the Chambers County Children’s Museum?

The Chambers County Children’s Museum is a place where curiosity leads to discovery, imagination comes to life, and children are encouraged to learn through play. Serving children ages 0–12 and their families, the Museum offers nearly 20,000 square feet of indoor, hands-on exhibits, along with an additional 10,000 square feet of outdoor play space in Recess!

    Our Mission is Simple:

To inspire discovery through innovation, hands on experiences, and exploratory play.

    Exhibits

At the heart of the Museum is Main Street, Where Kids Rule! This engaging space brings the community to life through a construction site, bank, restaurant, grocery store, dental and orthodontic office, light room, doctor’s office, and farm. Children can step into different roles, explore new ideas, and build confidence as they play.

At the center of Main Street is the Oil & Natural Gas Park, designed by Museum Designer Paul Bernhard Exhibits and sponsored by Enterprise Products. This exhibit introduces children to the oil and natural gas industry, from locating and extracting resources to refining, transportation, and the products created along the way.

Our Theatre provides a stage for creativity, storytelling, and self-expression. With a ticket booth, audience seating, costumes, and more, children can bring their imaginations to life through dramatic play, improvisation, and performance.

Beyond Main Street, children can discover six additional dynamic exhibits focused on kinetics, music, cardboard creation, LEGO cars, Carbon Capture and Storage, and nature exploration. Each exhibit offers opportunities to experiment, create, problem-solve, and discover something new.

A Symphony of Discovery: Throughout the Museum, classical music provides a gentle soundtrack to exploration and play. We believe that introducing children to classical music from an early age is important not only for its many proven neurological and socioemotional benefits but also because it can open the door to a lifelong appreciation of the arts. As children discover, create, and play, music becomes another way to experience the wonder of learning.

    Recess! Outdoor Play

The fun continues outdoors at Recess!, our fenced-in outdoor exhibit area offering approximately 10,000 additional square feet of space for children and families to enjoy.

    Highlights include:

    • A water wall and raised garden beds
    • A massive sand pit
    • A 12-foot alligator statue
    • A Walk of Wellness
    • A scooter station
    • A custom Chambers County mural by Houston artist David Maldonado
    • A unique climbing structure produced by Earth Scape

The climbing structure features a playhouse, two climbing clouds, and a large Log Tangle—a playground interpretation of a high-ropes course where elevated triangular platforms connect through a variety of obstacles.

From indoor exploration to outdoor adventure, the Chambers County Children’s Museum provides a space where children can play, discover, and grow.

    History

Founded in August 2019, the Chambers County Children’s Museum is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the state of Texas, led by a Board of Directors consisting of eight community leaders who are passionate about bringing play-centered learning to Chambers County.

As the region continues to grow, particularly with an increasing number of young families, the need for engaging, family-centered activities and educational opportunities has grown as well. The Chambers County Children’s Museum was established to help meet that need by providing permanent exhibits, innovative seasonal and rotating exhibits, and educational programming for children and families throughout the community.

In November 2019, the organization partnered with the new owners of the former Thrif-Tee Food Center at 10955 Eagle Drive in Mont Belvieu, Texas, securing a 15-year rent-free lease that helped make the Museum’s vision a reality.

More than 70 community partners and foundations have joined us in sponsoring exhibits and underwriting our construction and procurement of exhibits and furniture. On Saturday, June 24, 2023, the Chambers County Children’s Museum celebrated its Grand Opening. Come discover, play, and explore with us! Buy Your Tickets  and join us soon!
