Main Street Businesses

October 13, 2020

Thank you for your interest in the Chambers County Children’s Museum! The museum is to be located East of Baytown in Mont Belvieu, Texas. Our museum will serve a population of around 140,000 people who live in Baytown, Liberty, Dayton, Mont Belvieu, Anahuac, and Winnie. With the ever-expanding Oil and Gas plants located in Baytown and Mont Belvieu, our area has experienced explosive growth of young families moving to our communities. Mont Belvieu alone is expected to double its population in 10 years. A need has been created for more learning opportunities for our youth 0-12 years old. Traffic and distance from Houston prevent many families from visiting the great museums there. Our goal is to come alongside parents and teachers in this formative age and supplement the children’s learning in a play-centered way. We believe that physical, sensory-driven experiences aid in learning new concepts and ignite a child’s creativity. We currently have a Board of Directors comprised of 12 community leaders and have just welcomed our Founding Executive Director, Melody Kraus.

Our inspiration for Main Street

MAIN STREET

The museum will feature a main street area where kids rule the city. It will have a play grocery store, doctor’s office, feed store, veterinarian, bank, and more. Kids will be able to dress up and act out their chosen careers for the day. Kids will engage in creative play with a 16-foot water table, a light room with a giant light-bright and Magnatiles on light tables, and an art room.

The museum will also highlight our community’s industries – rice farming and oil and gas. The farm will be featured off Main Street and will focus on the industry’s impact on Chambers County. It will have plenty of interactive components including a rice sensory bin and corn pit. At the center of Main Street will be our showcase exhibit on Oil and Gas. In addition, we plan to bring unparalleled programming such as arts and crafts workshops, cooking classes, parenting classes, an invention convention and business fair. Summer camps on various topics such as slime, cardboard creations, and robotics will be a highlight for our visitors.
